Ayako, whose marriage has hit a slump, returns to her childhood home following her mother's death. Through a nude painting and a diary left among her mother's belongings, she discovers a past she never knew existed and tracks down the artist who painted the portrait. To understand her mother's true feelings, Ayako agrees to serve as the model for the painting's restoration.
