Based in the North East of England the second film that he wrote and directed (Entwinement) received international acclaim after receiving five nominations (in London and Madrid) before coming to the attention of distributors in the USA. Perhaps unusually for British films, although released in most territories the largest audiences for his films have been in the USA where distribution has been widest.
